Travelbridges is part of the Worldbridges network, a long-running project built around global conversation, multi-perspective education, and ethical commerce. The network was founded by Jeff Lebow, an educator, longtime expat, and the person who has been buying “bridges” domains since the days of Netscape and Altavista. A few bridges have been active at various points, but many have remained dormant for years. This is one of the sites in the early stages of waking up, and for now that means staying small and intentional: a handful of well-researched guides rather than a constant stream of posts, updated occasionally as the site grows into something more active.
Ultimately, the goal of Worldbridges and its component sites is to provide spaces where people from different places and perspectives can connect with each other and with meaningful content. To whatever extent business is conducted here, we want to promote fair trade, decent treatment of human workers, and the fairest possible compensation to those who produce content and keep things running.
Travelbridges actually has a longer history than most of the network. When I made my first real attempt at building Worldbridges back in 1998, I started with travel. I spent a couple of months based on Khao San Road in Bangkok, building websites for local travel agents, publishing content from the early era of travel bloggers, and getting a close look at one of the most chaotic, colorful travel hubs anywhere in the world. That early version went dormant eventually, but the domain has been quietly standing by waiting to be reactivated ever since. This version picks up that original thread: practical, research-grounded guides written for travelers everywhere, on topics chosen to stay relevant over time. There will likely be only occasional updates for now, but the eventual goal is to turn this into an active hub for travelers who want to learn, share content, and connect with others.
