Khao San Road is located less than a km from Demecracy Monument.

There is action pretty much 24 hours/day.  People coming, going, drinking, eating,

getting their hair done

playing, getting tattooed, enjoying a massage, 

dancing, planning their days activity, or contacting the folks back home.

There are countless places to eat, including some very good (and cheap) street food.

There are also a lot of places to shop or to sell extra things.

Ot sells these beautiful, labor intensive buffalo leather designs.  Each one can take days.

Tuk-tuks can be useful for short distances.  For long rides, taxis are much more comfortable and just about the same price.  Beware of Tuk-tuk drivers offering tours for 10 baht.  It's just
a scam to drag you to certain stores and pressure you to buy.  If you have any problems, there is a police station at one end of KS.
